Not all children are ready for the kindergarten experience, even if they are eligible to attend...
Research and teacher experience suggests:-
- Children born between January and April of the year they turn three, benefit much more from:
-Starting 3-4 Year Old Kinder during the year they turn four; -Starting 4-5 year Old Preschool in the year they turn five.
Children are entitled to commence school in the year they turn 6 years of age, they must be at least five years old by April 30th, in the year they are commencing school. Starting 3-4YO kinder in the year your child turns 4 is better because-
- Your child has an extra year to gain self-confidence & improved concentration span;
- Toilet training will be more established; children should be toilet trained
- Speech will be clearer-better articulation;
- Offers your child the chance to 'manage well' rather than 'just cope';
- Your child will be one of the eldest - more mature and able to cope with the demands of senior primary and high school;
- Probably more able to cope with peer groups, conflicts and frustrations.
